Using Unified Modeling Language (UML) to Bridge Clinical Practice and Health Data Interoperability in Paediatrics, Presentation Warsaw, 18 oktober 2025
One of the problems with digitally exchanging health data is that not every country uses the same code. Yet, this is the first requirement for data quality.
For example, there are different coding systems for height and weight. Are they recorded in the same way? And what is recorded: small or large? Compared to which normal values? In that case, someone with dwarfism (achondroplasia) will always be too short. But if we want to know how a medication works, shouldn't we want to see if there is a growth increase?
It is possible to create an API (Application Programming Interface) for each condition based on a medical guideline, allowing applications or computer programs to communicate with each other. This can be incorporated into the electronic file by the software developer. This presentation advocates for uniform coding.
