Jaundice in neonate

Neonatal jaundice is a yellowish discolouration of the white part of the eyes and skin in a newborn baby due to high bilirubin levels.  The yellow colour appears in the first days of life with the top on the 3-4 day. Often after that, the bilirubin lowers spontaneous. When jaundice remains for weeks further investigations have to be done because of the possibility of an underlying disorder. Most frequently the cause is breastfeeding, the baby is orange-yellow.
