Creatine-kinase in plasma or serum
Creatine-kinase (CK; in the past named creatine-fosfokinase (CPK)) is an important enzyme in the energy chain of the cell.
Necrosis of cells causing increased permeability of cell membrane or a reduced renal clearance may lead to elevated CK- activity in serum.
In practice it usually concerns disease of skelet- or heart muscles Many neuromuschlar diseases are accompanied by an elevated serum CK activity.
